here are some guidelines for formatting and tagging different types of posts! this will be edited & added to as time goes on!
the only general rule for posting at moment is the obligatory don't be a dick rule. i don't think any of you need to be told to use your common sense but just in case: no hatespeech or harassment. be nice to each other!
here's super simple example/template
not necessary to follow to a t, but here for those who want it!
Subject: [CHARACTER NAME]: recommended reading list
[optional character image, no bigger than ~600x400px, please!]
[optional description/intro]
[cut if list is more than 10 lines, cut before if description is longer than ~40]
[issues, preferably listed using bullets]
[optional end notes]
Tags: [publisher]: reading list, [character]: reading list, [+ optional extra tags]: reading list
TAGGING RELATIONSHIPS
of course, you can post rec or recommended reading for characters' relationships, too. they work in the same way as regular tags, but, for tagging continuity, please arrange the names in the tag alphabetically order according to the characters' first names. first, not last, because there are quite a few characters out there that don't have a last name or only go by an alias or have multiple last names or have any number of other complications. this will make things a lot simpler in those cases!
please use an & to separate the names, no matter what the nature of the relationship--familial, friendly, romantic, whatever! again, for simplicity's sake!

please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions!

posting recommended reading lists
- just one per post, please! if you have 3 characters you want to post recommended reading for, make three separate posts. this will make things much easier for those searching through the tags later
- if you have a list for a character that someone else has already posted one for, you can still post yours if you think it's necessary--just make sure yours isn't identical to the one already posted. variety is good!
- if your post contains a list of issues longer than 10 bullets, which it likely will, please put it under a cut! this will make navigation much easier. here are instructions for how to put a cut into your post if you need them!
- the subject line should contain the name of the character's name in all caps so it's easy to see for someone scrolling through and state that the post is a recommended reading list. something like "HAL JORDAN: recommended reading list" though it doesn't have to conform to that template exactly
- feel free to write a short intro blurb at the top to tell people why you like this character or why you'd suggest that they read about them. if this intro gets lengthy, that's fine! but please put a cut if you think it will be longer than ~40 lines when posted!
- you can include a banner or picture of the character, if you'd like, but please keep it under ~600x400px
- check the tags section below to see how to properly tag!

posting single/other recommendations
- you can also recommend single issues/arcs/runs/characters/etc here if you'd like! there aren't really any guidelines for this sort of post because they can be anything you like! feel like gushing about your favorite character and why you love them so much and would so so so recommend that new readers pick them as their first comic books love? go for it. got a favorite issue, arc, or run that you think everyone should read? be my guest!
- please just observe the same rule about post length as the section above and add a cut if it ends up longer than ~40 lines when posted!
- check the tags section below to see how to properly tag!
posting requests
- for the moment, if you're looking for recommended reading for a character that hasn't been posted yet, you should make a new post for it! in the future, i may end up making a post so requests can go in its comments instead for navigation's sake, but that's not really a huge concern yet, so don't you worry about it!
- in the subject, preface with "request:" and then put the name of the character/franchise you're looking to get into. something like "request: john stewart comics" or "request: trying to get into the batfam" or something to that effect!
- check the tags section below to see how to properly tag!
and everything else
- miscellaneous content that doesn't fall into any of the above sections! posts more for & by people who are already in too deep than for the fresh-faced. discussions of modern comics, characterization, meta, favorite writers, artists, designs, costumes, etc. may be split into its own subcategories as time goes on, but, for now, we're just lumping it all together
- again, when it comes to post length, go as long as you want, but please add a cut if it exceeds ~40 lines when posted!
- check the tags section below to see how to properly tag!
TAGS
tags are to split into sections, with "oliver queen: reading list," "oliver queen: recs," "oliver queen: requests," etc. instead of just one main "oliver queen" tag where everything goes. this way things will be easier to find than if characters only had one tag for every type of content!
be sure and tag the comic publisher as well as the character's name. this way people who broadly want to get into comics but aren't sure of any specific character can just browse the general "[dc/marvel/etc]:reading list" tags!
you can also put more tags if you'd like, such as the character's team or alias (eg "green arrow: reading list,") or if their group has a fandom nickname (eg " arrowfam: reading list). with recommendations and reading lists especially, i would encourage you to tag generously so more people can find your post, but the character name and publisher is all i ask!
